After Kickstarting her first two novels, The Girl Who Would Be King and Storykiller, Kelly Thompson teams with artist Meredith McClaren and Dark Horse Comics for her first graphic novel, Heart In A Box.
McClaren’s graphic novel Hinges (which she both wrote and illustrated, available from Image) shows the soft, powerful tone she conveys using an almost monochromatic palette. No preview pages for Heart in a Box are yet available, but with McClaren’s beautiful artwork and Thomson’s ability to create engaging fantasy worlds we should expect a twist on heartbreak that’s both touching and amusing.
“In a moment of post-heartbreak weakness, Emma wishes her heart away, and a mysterious stranger obliges. But emptiness is even worse than grief, and Emma sets out to collect the seven pieces of her heart in a journey that forces her to face her own history and the cost of recapturing it!”
Heart in a Box is due from Dark Horse July 14, but is available for pre-order from all major retailers and, most importantly, from your local comic book store.
